Our Crisis Intervention Process

We exist to make damn sure no veteran faces darkness alone. This is an anonymous, no-reprisal lifeline where every call gets answered by someone who's been there.

When you reach out to Charles Michael, we use a proven three-question protocol to ensure you get the right level of support immediately.

How It Works

Each question is designed to quickly assess your needs and route you to the most appropriate level of care.

1

Immediate Danger Assessment

This first question is critical for identifying life-threatening situations. If you're experiencing any of the following, answer YES:

  • Active thoughts of harming yourself or others
  • Access to means of self-harm
  • Feeling completely overwhelmed and unsafe
  • Experiencing severe dissociation or psychosis

What happens next: We immediately connect you to 911 emergency services. Stay on the line if possible, and emergency responders will be dispatched to your location.

2

Specialist Care Assessment

This question helps identify if you need professional mental health support. Answer YES if you're experiencing:

  • Persistent depression or anxiety
  • PTSD symptoms that interfere with daily life
  • Substance use concerns
  • Relationship or family issues
  • Need for medication management

What happens next: We connect you with mental health professionals who specialize in veteran care, including therapists, psychiatrists, and specialized treatment programs.

3

Peer Support Connection

This question opens the door to immediate emotional support and connection. Answer YES if you:

  • Need someone to talk to right now
  • Want to share your experiences with someone who understands
  • Are feeling isolated or lonely
  • Need help finding local resources
  • Want to learn about ongoing support programs

What happens next: We connect you with a trained volunteer who will listen, provide emotional support, and help you access ongoing resources and programs.
